Creating and editing a playlist in iTunes

If you have a lot of music on your iPhone and iPad that you transfer to your music library on your computer, then over time the question will definitely arise on how to create your own playlist in iTunes. In iTunes, you can create more than just one playlist, but as many as you like: for different moods, times of day, activities. All you need to do is add songs to your library and distribute them into different lists. If necessary, the selection can be edited or deleted.

Creating a playlist

To create a playlist in iTunes:

If you've already created a playlist in iTunes but want to update it with new tracks on your iPhone or iPad, right-click the song you want and select Add. Then connect your iPhone/iPad to your computer and perform synchronization, as a result of which the updated selection of music tracks will appear in the memory of your mobile device.

In iTunes, you can create smart playlists that will be formed according to specified conditions: genre, album rating, etc. To get this compilation:

  1. Expand the “File” menu, select “New” - “Smart Playlist”.
  2. Set the conditions by which the selection will be formed.

To send a compilation to your iPhone or iPad, connect the device to your computer and sync the data.

Editing a playlist

Each playlist you create is added to your library and appears in the menu on the left of the iTunes window. If you want to change its composition, right-click and select Edit. You can change the playback order of tracks by arranging them using the usual dragging of lines with the mouse. After syncing with iPhone/iPad, the playback order will be preserved.

To delete a track, you must also right-click on it and select the corresponding “Delete” item. The song is not removed from the library; you can only delete it from a specific music selection. If a song is added to different playlists, you will have to remove it from each compilation separately.

If you want to erase the entire playlist, select it and press the Delete key or right-click and use the Delete option. You can delete both a regular playlist and a smart selection from iTunes. To delete a collection on your iPhone or iPad, connect your device to your computer and sync.

Using the Genius feature

If you don't want to create a playlist manually, let iTunes do the job by activating the Genius feature (File - Media Library - Enable Genius). There are three ways to use the function:

  1. Recommendations – iTunes selects a song and finds other tracks that go with it.
  2. Playlist – select a song, iTunes will select similar songs.
  3. Mixes – select a genre, iTunes will start playing matching tracks continuously.

To create playlists, selections and mixes, anonymous information about the media library is used. The data is constantly updated, information from iPhone and iPad is taken into account, so for the function to work correctly, an Internet connection and Apple ID are required.
