Why doesn't sound work on PC? How to restore sound on any laptop using different methods? You have turned off the sound or the sound is muted

The advent of the first computers did not imply any possibility of playing sound files, let alone recording and processing them. These computers were intended mainly for solving other problems - processing large numbers and performing various mathematical operations. The only sound that the user could hear was the unpleasant beeping of the built-in system dynamics. It usually alerted you to the presence of some error while loading the operating system.

Reasons for no sound on PC

Faced with similar situation many, most likely, were in a hurry to call a specialist who would solve the problem. But any specialist costs money, which is usually in short supply. Therefore, it is best to learn how to fix periodically occurring faults yourself.

Note that there are many reasons for the sudden absence of sound. These can be either system problems or technical ones related to the performance of the sound card.

In this article we will look in detail at the necessary actions if the sound on the computer suddenly disappears.

If a problem like this occurs, you need to determine the cause. To do this, you should start with the simplest steps, namely, the volume control icon located in the system tray.

Volume icon location

Volume control

Check the position of the volume slider. For the sound to be heard normally, it must be located approximately in the middle position.

It is quite possible that due to some oversight the slider was moved to starting position, so the sound is not sent to the speakers of your computer.

In addition, the sound may be turned off completely. In this case, you will see a prohibition icon next to the speaker icon. It may look like a red circle with an inclined stripe inside or a cross.

Computer sound is muted

In order to turn on the sound, you will need to click on the speaker logo. If this was the problem, you will again hear the long-awaited sound from the speakers.

Volume mixer

If you encounter no sound on your computer, check your audio mixer settings.

To open it, hover your mouse over the speaker icon located in the system tray and click right click mice.

In the menu that appears, select the topmost item - "Open Volume Mixer".

Mixer open menu item

In the mixer window that opens, check that all sliders are in the middle position - these are the default settings. Also, make sure that all speaker icons are on.

After these manipulations, the sound should appear. If this does not happen, proceed to the next steps.

Checking playback devices

The next step, if the sound is lost, is to check the devices that are responsible for it.

In order to go to the tab responsible for playback devices, click on the speaker icon again. In the menu that appears, you must select the appropriate item, namely - "Playback Devices".

Menu item “Playback devices”

After selecting this item, the Sound window will open, containing all the sound devices available on your computer.

Find the section "Speakers" - "Sound", which is responsible for connecting external speakers to the system, and make sure that this device is defined by default and works fine. In this case, next to the speaker icon there will be a green circle with a checkmark inside.

Confirming normal speaker operation

If this confirmation missing, you should right-click on the “Speakers” item and select the item in the menu that appears "Use as default".

Default device menu

If the speakers connected to the computer are installed by default, but are not active - they are gray - you will need to activate them (turn them on). To do this, use the right mouse button again and select “Enable” in the menu that appears.

Enable inactive speakers

It may also happen that when you open the window for devices responsible for playback, the “Speakers” item will be completely absent. This means that the device that plays the sound is disabled for some reason.

What to do in this case?

All you need to do is select a free (empty) space in this window and, by clicking on it, select the item "Show disabled devices".

Show disabled devices

After the speakers appear in the sound devices window, all you have to do is turn them on and set them as the default device.

After this, you can enjoy the sound that appears.

It is possible that after this the speakers will remain silent. In this case, proceed to the next stage of verification.

Sound card control

At this stage, you should check the sound card on your computer. It is no secret that it is directly responsible for the appearance of sound.

Currently, sound cards are classified into the following types:

  • cards that are built into the motherboard are integrated;
  • separate cards designed for installation in PCI or PCIe ports - internal;
  • independent devices that connect to a personal computer via a USB connector - external.

Each of these cards differs not only in resource consumption, but also in the quality of the sound output.

Integrated cards are the simplest and you can get the most out of them high-quality sound it simply won't work. In addition, they load well.

Integrated sound card

Internal cards have their own processor and allow for high synchronization of audio streams.

Internal map

Despite the variety of sound-reproducing devices, users quite often encounter a lack of sound reproduction.

To get started, go to "Device Manager" and check if the sound card is shown in the list present there.

To do this, right-click on the “My Computer” icon located on the desktop. In the menu that appears, select the lowest item - “Properties”.

Selecting “Properties”

In the system window that opens, select "Device Manager", on the tab of which find the line "Sound, video and gaming devices".

Device Manager Window

Expand the list and see if your sound card appears there. If it is displayed but inactive, turn it on. To do this, click on its name and in the menu that appears, activate the “Enable” item.

It may be that the sound card in the sound and gaming devices absent. In this case, you should look for it in the section "Other devices".

Section with other devices

There's nothing wrong with that, it's just that your audio device is located on the bus. If it is inactive, turn it on in the same way as described above.

If you see that next to the name of the audio device there is an icon in the form of a yellow circle with an exclamation mark inside, the problem is not with the device itself, but with the drivers installed on it. In this case, you will need to reinstall them.

Installing sound drivers

Due to crooked or outdated installations, a situation very often arises when the sound on the computer disappears.

And you need to do the following - install missing or reinstall existing drivers. There is no need to remove old drivers, as they will still be updated when new ones are installed.

First, determine which one requires installation. To do this, open the Device Manager tab again and select your existing sound card. Double-left-click on its name to open the properties window.

Sound card properties window

In this window, go to the “Details” tab and select the value in the properties drop-down list "Equipment ID". The Value section will display the hardware ID. Select and copy the first one.

Details tab

Then you will need to use the Internet and open the website devid.Info, where the search for drivers for the sound device will be carried out.

Driver search site by device type

There should not be any difficulties in working with this site, since it supports the Russian language. In the search field located at the top of this resource, you need to paste the copied ID of your sound device and click the “Search” button. At the end of the search, a window with its results will open.

A floppy disk icon will be displayed in the lower right corner of this window, by clicking on which you can save the found driver on your computer. After downloading is complete, click on "exe" file to begin the installation process.

Running the installation file

It may happen that the downloaded file will not have the extension "exe". Do not be alarmed - its installation is carried out by updating the drivers.

To do this, open it again "Device Manager" and double click on the name of the sound card. In the properties window that opens, go to the “Driver” tab and click on the “Update” button.

Driver tab of the sound card properties window

After this, a driver update window will open in front of you, in which select "Search for drivers on this computer".

Selecting a driver search option

Then you will need to specify the location of the previously downloaded file. This is done using the “Review” button available in the update window.

After installing the new driver, be sure to restart your computer for all changes to take effect. If you then open the sound card properties window, you can see that sound driver updated.

Windows Audio Service

Another reason why there is no sound on the computer may be that the service is disabled. Windows Audio.

In order to enable it, you will need to go to the Services tab.

First of all, open "Control Panel".

Control panel window

Select a section from the elements present in it "Administration".

Administration Tab

Then go to the Services tab and find in Windows list Audio.

Services Tab

If this service is disabled, double-click on it. After this, the properties tab for this service will open, where you need to enable it.

In the Status option, click the Run button and then Apply for the changes to take effect.

Properties tab Windows services Audio

If you do not want to constantly start this service manually, set the parameter in the “Startup type” section "Auto".

Installing an additional program

A small utility program called Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

However, this “program” is only suitable for those who have a Realtek sound card installed. Although, to be honest, it is installed on most computers.

First you need to download and install it on your PC

Download

Appearance Realtek programs.

During the installation process, the program copies the files necessary for operation and reboots the computer. After this, the installation continues. At the end of it, the computer must be restarted again - only in this case the changes made will be able to take effect.

If the installation was successful - near standard icon speaker icon will appear in the system tray.

Realtek program icon

By clicking on it, you will be taken to the tab of this program, where you can configure it.

Realtek HD Manager Window

Checking speaker connections

Another step in solving the problem of no sound is to check that the external speakers are connected to the computer correctly.

Don't forget that the audio jack is green. The color of the speaker plug is often the same. If the connection is correct, remove and reinsert the plug into the socket - it is quite possible that the necessary contact is missing.

Appearance of the audio input jack

Also check the integrity of the wires, as well as the connection of the speakers to the network. If possible, connect to another computer to make sure they are working.

If the previous actions did not have the desired effect, check the BIOS settings.

BIOS setup

These actions apply to those who periodically change the settings of this system.

Turn on the computer and at the moment of startup press the corresponding button on the keyboard (F12, Esc, Del and other combinations). After you log in, go to the “Advanced” tab. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the High Definition Audio option and see that it has a status of . If installed, then the sound is simply turned off and you will need to turn it on.

Activate this option by highlighting it and pressing the Enter button. In the window that opens, select the desired option and press “Enter” again.

BIOS Sound Settings

After making changes, press the “F10” key to exit and save.

No sound from the front panel of the computer

In order for the front panel to have a working audio output, the Realtek manager must be installed.

If this manager is not on your computer, install it.

To access its tab, you will need to open the Control Panel window and select it from the list present.

In the manager window that opens, go to the “Speakers” tab.

Speakers Tab

After that, uncheck the box "Disable front panel jack detection". This should get rid of the lack of sound on the front panel.

If this does not help, check the BIOS settings for the front panel of your computer.

Front Panel BIOS Settings

Enter the BIOS using the keys designed to configure your PC. This could be F2, Del, Esc and so on.

On the "Advanced" tab, use the arrow buttons to navigate to the section "Onboard Device Configuration".

Then select the line “Front Panel Type” and make sure that opposite this parameter installed .

If it is written instead, press the “Enter” button and in the window that opens, specify the required parameter.

Selecting the AC97 parameter in the BIOS settings

When the connector on the front panel of the computer does not want to output any sound, check the hardware just in case.

Checking the motherboard

To begin this task, you must turn off and completely disconnect the PC.

Entering a search phrase

If you know exactly when the sound stopped, perform a system rollback to get rid of the latest unsuccessful changes.

When you don’t know the exact date of the sound loss, use the item "Select a different restore point".

Selecting a different system restore point

In the last window, specify the system drive on which the previously created checkpoint is located, and click on the “Finish” button. After this, the computer will restart, during which all existing changes will be canceled.

When a system rollback does not bring the desired results, you may need to reinstall it yourself. However, this is an extreme measure and should be used only if other actions have failed to restore the missing sound on the computer.

Quite often the sound disappears after Windows updates 7 and 8 to the tenth version.

First of all, look for a solution to the problem that has arisen in the system settings.

Open the volume control located in the system tray and set the slider to the most appropriate position.

In addition, after updating Windows to the tenth version, installing the necessary drivers is a prerequisite. Otherwise, you can simply forget about the normal operation of many devices.

To install the most suitable drivers, use the official websites of the manufacturers of certain devices.

For example, to install Realtek sound card drivers, go to the developers’ website, from where you can download not only drivers, but also additional programs.

Download

After the drivers are downloaded and installed, be sure to restart your computer.

In Windows 7, if there is no sound, you can use the built-in utility, which automatically diagnoses the system and eliminates existing faults. The sound problem is no exception.

Most often, this utility runs automatically and does not require any special intervention. However, if absolutely necessary, it can be started manually. This can be done directly from the window of the device that is experiencing problems.

Sound card doesn't work

Since this card is the sound producer, its absence directly depends on its operation.

It may fail for several reasons:

  • due to breakdown;
  • as a consequence bad contact or incorrect connection.

In order to check it, unscrew and remove the side cover from system unit. Remove the sound card by disconnecting it from the motherboard socket. To do this, press the special latches that are located on the edges of the PCI connector.

Check contacts for oxidation or contamination. Clean them and insert the sound card in its original place.

It is necessary to press it into the socket until a peculiar click appears. This occurs due to the fixation of the latches.

Sound card appearance

To troubleshoot the card itself at home, remove it from the PCI connector and insert it into another computer. However, not everyone can use this option. The only correct action is to contact the service center specialists, who will diagnose your sound card in a matter of minutes. If it malfunctions, they will explain whether it is more cost-effective to repair it or purchase a new card.

There may be no sound even if installed drivers conflicted with drivers of other devices.

For example, if such a problem occurs when logging in, the sound card and modem drivers conflict. To verify this, you will need to open the Device Manager tab. In this situation, conflicting devices will be marked with an exclamation point icon. To return these devices to working condition, you need to update their drivers.

Article content:

A fairly common situation is the loss of sound on personal computer or on a laptop. The article below will tell you how you can try to identify the problem yourself and solve it without involving any computer experts.

Possible reasons for no sound

First, you need to determine why there is no sound on the computer. In most cases, the problems are as follows:

  • Problems with speakers or headphones - from a poorly connected wire to their breakdown;
  • Problems with software part- starting from incorrect settings and ending with sound card drivers;
  • Sound card malfunction - in most cases, only repairs under warranty or repairs at your own expense in specialized service centers will help here;

Problems with speakers or headphones

The first thing to rule out is a malfunction of the sound output device. To begin with, it would be a good idea to check the wires - whether they are connected correctly and whether they are fully plugged into the connectors they need. The sound card connector into which you need to plug in speakers or headphones is usually green.

If everything is plugged in correctly, but there is still no sound, it would be a good idea to check the sound through some other speakers or headphones, thereby completely eliminating the possibility of a breakdown of the audio output device. If there is still no sound, then the problem is in the computer.

Problems with the software

It is quite possible that the system has some problems with the software - incorrect settings or “lost” drivers.

“Incorrect settings” means incorrect volume settings in the system.

In order to make sure that the sound settings are not at a minimum, you need to click on the sound icon in the tray (in the form of a speaker) and look at the position of the volume slider.

If the volume is set to 0, then this is equivalent to muting the sound in the system. In this case, you need to set the volume higher.

For various reasons, problems with drivers may occur on your computer - for example, due to viruses, or some kind of system failure. You can check the audio driver status as follows:

Reinstalling the driver

The very first thing you need to do is find required driver. Most often the most in a simple way will find it on the disk that came with the computer.

As an example, the photo shows the disk that came with the motherboard.

You can also download the required driver from the Internet; for this you need to know the model of your sound card. In most cases, it is built into the motherboard, so on the Internet you can easily find the necessary information on the built-in sound card.

Installing the Realtek sound card driver

In the majority modern computers The sound card manufacturer is Realtek. You can download their sound card driver. To start downloading, you must first tick the “I accept to the above” box, and then click the “Next” button. Then, you will need to select the desired driver according to the bitness of the operating system (you can find out by opening “System Properties”).

  • For 32-bit (86-bit) operating systems Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, you need to download drivers called " 32bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10 Driver only (Executable file)"
  • For 64-bit (64-bit) operating systems Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, you need to download drivers called " 64bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10 Driver only (Executable file)"
  • For the Windows XP operating system, you need to download drivers called " Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file)"

To load the selected driver, you must click on the "Global" button in the same line.

You need to run the downloaded file and follow the simplest instructions in Russian - in short, you just need to press the “Next” button all the time. At the end of the driver installation process, you will need to restart the computer, and then check whether the sound problems are resolved or not.

If all else fails

If checking audio output devices (speakers/headphones), checking volume settings and reinstalling the driver did not help, then it is quite possible that the problem is already at the hardware level. In any case, it would be a good idea to contact service center, in which they will diagnose and identify the problem.

A hardware and software complex called the audio subsystem or PC audio subsystem is responsible for sound on a computer. All links of this complex are closely intertwined, and the failure of even a small part of it affects the work as a whole.

Without understanding it, you can never definitely name the reason why there is no sound on the computer. After all, there are a great many sources of this problem: starting from a failure in Windows settings and ending with problems with audio path devices.

But before we talk about the reasons and how to fix it, let’s figure out what the computer’s sound subsystem consists of.

Hardware and software

Audio card

A sound card or sound adapter is a device designed for processing audio data on a PC. Cards can be discrete (separate) or integrated - soldered onto the PC motherboard. The latter are the most common and are represented by two basic elements: an audio codec - a small 4x4 mm microcircuit, and a host controller as part of the chipset (south bridge).

Recording and playback devices

Audio related software

  • A driver that controls the operation of an audio card. If there is no driver, there is no sound on the computer either.
  • Setup utilities: Windows Sound and audio device managers from hardware developers.
  • System Services: Endpoint Builder Windows points Audio.
  • Codecs are a set of dynamic libraries necessary for playing sound files of certain formats. Some audio codecs are present in Windows natively, others are installed as needed. The absence of some codecs is manifested by the fact that individual music files will not be played on the computer, but in general the sound does not disappear. Example codecs: mp3, wma, aac, etc.

We figure out why there is no sound on a computer or laptop

To make it easier to understand why the computer suddenly became “deaf and dumb”, let’s divide the reasons into 2 groups according to the time of occurrence:

  • there has been no sound on the PC since the purchase or installation of the system;
  • The sound disappeared after working.

If there was never a sound

Connecting the speakers

First, make sure that the audio card is installed correctly and turned on. Look at the rear end of the system unit - the jacks for the microphone, speakers and headphones are either on the motherboard, or just below - if the sound card is connected as an expansion card. There are at least 2-3 such jacks (microphone input, line input and line output), at most - more than a dozen (on professional cards). On laptops there can be only one jack 3.5 socket.

In addition to the audio card, speakers or headphones can be the culprit for the fact that there is no sound on the computer, so it is better to make sure from the very beginning that they are in order - check them on another PC or on a phone. There's no harm in checking the speakers in each jack, as the jacks can be remapped in the Audio Device Manager settings.

Let's see how their reassignment is done using the example of a utility from Realtek:

  • Open through the control panel "Realtek HD Manager"
  • IN right side There is a diagram of the audio connectors in the window. Right-click on the one you want to reassign
  • Select "Change jack assignments"

  • In the window that opens, select the device that you want to connect to this socket

Install the driver

Look into Device Manager and check if the sound driver is installed. Without a driver, the audio card will be recognized as unknown device. Open Device Manager from Control Panel and make sure it is there. If not, install the sound driver, which you will find on the disk from your motherboard or laptop, or download it from the manufacturer’s website. Removable audio cards are also equipped with disks with software, so there shouldn't be any problems with them.

If you see a similar picture (and there is no audio card in the list of sound devices), this is your case. For sound to appear, the driver must be installed. It can be found on the disk from the motherboard, and if there is no disk, download it from the website of its manufacturer. Or from the website of the sound adapter manufacturer, when its model is known.

How to find the right driver by motherboard model

First you need to determine the “mother” model. One of the utilities for recognizing PC hardware will help with this, for example, free HWiNFO32\64 or CPU-Z. In HWiNFO necessary information displayed in the “System Summary” window, in the “Motherboard” field.

In CPU-Z – on the “Mainboard” tab in the “Model” field.

  • In the list of services, find “Windows Audio Endpoint Builder” and open its properties (the item of the same name in context menu). In the “General” tab, the startup type “Automatic” must be selected. If the service is stopped, click the "Start" button

Setting up the BIOS

Next you need to make sure that the card is not disabled. A sound-related parameter may be called: “Audio Controller”, “Azalia Audio”, “HDA Controller”, “OnChip Sound”, etc. with the words sound, audio, azalia, HDA. IN different versions BIOS it is located in the “Advanced” or “Integrated Peripherals” tabs. To enable an audio device, you need to set it to Auto or Enabled.

We connect a known-good audio card

Is the computer still “deaf and dumb”? It is possible that the sound card is simply faulty. There are many inexpensive discrete audio cards on sale with USB interfaces, PCI and PCI-E, which can replace the built-in one in case of failure.

There was sound before, but it disappeared

Find out why the sound disappeared on the computer after normal operation it can be even more difficult. Here the following is added to the above reasons.

Viral infection

A virus can not only steal or corrupt your data, but also leave your computer without sound. The problem is created by the activity itself malware and the changes in the system that it makes (modification system files and registry viruses and Trojans are a common occurrence).

First, of course, you need to get rid of the malware - for this, the capabilities of an antivirus that works “normally” on the system are often sufficient. And if the treatment does not help and the sound does not appear, you will have to restore Windows operation(more on this below).

Defects in system files or registry keys related to sound

It will help to solve problems with files and the registry at once if a checkpoint was created before the sound disappeared.

When there is no point or this function is disabled, you can try to correct the situation using other system mechanisms:

  • file recovery Windows utility sfc.exe;
  • restoring the registry from backup.

Procedure for recovering files using Sfc:

  • Run as administrator command line(cmd.exe)
  • Write in it: sfc /scannow(which means check system files, and if changes occur, automatically restore from storage) and press Enter.

Registry recovery

The current (downloaded) registry is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\config. It consists of five files without an extension: default, security, sam, system and software. A backup copy of the registry, in the form of the same five files, is stored in the folder in 7, 8 and 8.1 C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack. It is automatically updated every 10 days.

In Windows XP this is not the case - there is only a copy of the registry saved immediately after installing the system. It is in the folder C:\Windows\Repair.

When failures occur, including those related to sound, replacing the current registry files with a backup one will help restore Windows functionality. The main thing is that it was created before the problem arose.

How to do it?

  • Boot your computer from another media (for example, any Live CD that has Explorer or file manager- Midnight commander, FAR, etc.)
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\config and add the extension .old to all five registry files
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack (on XP – to C:\Windows\Repair), copy the same backups and place it in C:\Windows\System32\config
  • Boot your computer again from hard drive- Windows will pick up the old registry and the problem, if it was in it, will be solved.

Overclocking your computer

Excessive overclocking of the computer - when “playful hands” get into the BIOS and reconfigure something there for the purpose, also lead to problems with sound. Not every overclocking instruction says that trying to improve one thing can break another.

If this happened to you, then the BIOS settings need to be reset to default. To do this, you can use any of the following methods.

  • Go to BIOS Setup and on the Exit or Save & Exit tab, click Load Setup Defaults (Load Defaults BIOS, Load Safe-Fail Defaults, Load Defaults Settings, Set BIOS Default, Restore Defaults - the option names differ in different BIOS versions).

  • Find the RTC battery on the motherboard (on desktop computer boards this is a CR2032 “tablet”) and remove it from the socket for a while (15 - 30 minutes is usually enough). To speed up the reset, you can briefly short-circuit the socket terminals with the same battery.
  • Find the Clear CMOS jumper on the board (CLRTC, Clear RTC, CCMOS, etc. - again, different names on different boards) and briefly move it to 2 adjacent pins.

The second and third methods are performed only when complete shutdown power supply to the computer (from the outlet or by pressing the button on the power supply).

Why else might there be no sound on the computer?

If the jumpers on the motherboard, which are responsible for reassigning the sound output, are not installed or are positioned incorrectly, then there will be no sound! You need to carefully look at the instructions for the motherboard, the section regarding Audio, and check how the jumpers are actually positioned. In this case, the symptoms are as follows: the file is playing in the player, the volume is set correctly, but there is complete silence in the speakers.

If you are connecting to the front panel, it may simply not be connected to the board or connected incorrectly. There are two types of front panels: legacy AC’97 and HD Definition. Accordingly, if in BIOS settings If there is such a setting, then you need to select the type of your front panel (try both).

If the instructions seem too complicated or the problem was not solved, or when the situation repeats itself over and over again, the best thing to do is contact the service or write about your problem in the comments to the article.

05.02.2015

Greetings, friends. Today we will look at the question of why there is no sound on the computer, or why the sound on the computer has disappeared? These are the questions that beginners and computer users ask. And our computer desktop is preparing more and more surprises.

The reason why there is no sound on the computer is divided into nine sections. This is from my point of view, since this problem occurs for many different reasons.

  1. Checking the volume level.

  2. We check your computer for viruses. About how to protect your computer, watch this video and this video

  3. You need to check your sound device drivers.

  4. Checking the speaker connections.

  5. Configuring system services.

  6. Check if the sound card is enabled in the BIOS.

  7. We eliminate defects in system files.

  8. When connecting a TV, the sound disappears.

  9. We replace the sound card.

Checking the volume level on the computer

The first thing we need to check is whether the computer is in silent mode.

It happens that you accidentally press a button on the keyboard without sound and wonder why there is no sound. And we also check the volume level on the computer and on the speakers themselves. If everything is fine, we move on.

Checking your computer for viruses

If you surf the Internet on various interesting sites, you download different files and especially without protection, then the probability of computer infection is 100% serious. The virus is working normally on our computer.

If the sound suddenly disappears, immediately check with any antivirus such as avast free.

You need to check your sound device drivers

Sometimes it happens that when updating the system, the driver is installed incorrectly or the driver does not work at all. How to find out, look at the picture

In the picture we see a device that shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. This means that the driver is not installed correctly or is missing altogether. If you have an Internet connection, we update the driver automatically. Right-click on the driver that is not working and select “update driver”

Again no sound on computer let's move on to the next step

Checking the speaker connections

I went to buy myself new computer or your first computer, you chose what you needed and came as a lady with a smile on your face. I assembled it myself, connected it to the power source, and look, there is no sound.

When assembling a computer, there are outputs from the sound card on the back of the case and they differ in colors: pink, blue, green, yellow, black.

Pink connector - microphone

Blue connector - line input

Green connector - speaker output

Yellow connector - coaxial SPDIF output

Connector black - optical SPDIF output

You need to select the green socket as in the picture.

You need to select the connector where the column is drawn. And also check the functionality of the speakers, connect them to another computer or phone and check whether the speakers work or not.

One more function needs to be checked. We go to start-sound and equipment-sound, the window that opens if your speakers are disabled will be gray as in the picture

And if the speakers are not visible at all, then we perform next action. In the same window, right-click and click “show disabled devices”, then turn on the devices, i.e. speakers and check the sound.

Configuring system services.

If there is no sound on the computer, you need to check system services whether they're okay or not.

In order to enter system services, go to Start and write in the search line “services.msc.”

Run the file as in the picture

In the window that opens, look for the file “Windows Audio Endpoint Builder”. Opening this file and look at “the startup type should be automatic” and the state should be “running”. Let's look at the picture.

Checking whether the sound card is enabled in the BIOS It happens that the sound card is disabled in the BIOS system. In order to turn on the card, go to the BIOS and turn on the key as in the picture

After this, there is still no sound on the computer, move on to the next step. Eliminate defects in system files

To implement this method, go to Start and call the command line. We write “sfc /scannow” in the command line and press enter. The process of automatic recovery of system files will start; in case of changes, it will automatically restore them from the storage.

The last reason why there is no sound on the computer when connecting to a TV

This reason also occurred in my practice. I decided to use a TV connected to a computer, I use two monitors on my computer, one standard and the other a TV.

Attention, if you have a weak video card, then when you use a monitor and TV, sooner or later your video card will go to hell and burn out even worse.

I connected the TV and saw there was no sound. Again I went through points 1.2.3. and found nothing. I went to the control panel - sound and equipment - sound. It turned out that Windows selected the TV as the default device for playback.

If you want the computer speakers to work and not the TV, do the following: on the bottom panel of the desktop, click on the column. Look at the picture!

In the devices section, click on the arrow located under the column icon and select speakers.

If, on the contrary, you want to use the sound of the TV, do the same steps and select the TV, I have it written like this LG TV-3

This is how friends and such pies happen. We have looked at all the possible reasons why there is no sound on the computer. I hope I wrote everything clearly. If something doesn’t work out for you, write a comment and I’ll try to help you. That's all, sign up and bye!!!
