How to fix errors when restoring iPhone 5s

If apps are installed incorrectly, the functionality and settings of your iPhone 5S can be seriously compromised. Often, if the phone is frozen, the only solution to restore the functionality of the Apple device is to carry out the standard recovery procedure. We will describe how to completely return your Apple device to its previous functionality.

Ways to restore device functionality

Various types of problems can occasionally arise on the iPhone - glitches appear, the phone does not respond to button presses, or the wait is too long. Recovery methods in these cases may vary, however, if the problem is serious, failures often occur when using “softer” methods of resetting parameters 47, 14, 4014,4013, 4005, 3194, etc.

Normal reboot (Soft Reset)

When a gadget is frozen, sometimes you can get it out of this state by rebooting:

  1. Press and hold the Power and Home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds;
  2. When the Apple logo appears, release the keys.

It is possible that the glitches in the iPhone 5S will disappear after this.

Update in DFU mode bypassing iOS phone

Unlike the one discussed above, updating in this mode will destroy the user’s information on the iPhone 5S, so it is advisable to make a backup before performing it. But such a reinstallation of the OS often helps to avoid failures with codes 50, 47, 14, 3014, 3194, 4005, 4013, 4014, etc. Don’t forget to download the current version of iOS for your phone through the Apple support site. For this:

  • go to http://www.getios.com/ and select the name of your device in the appropriate field;
  • In the The Model drop-down list, specify the device model;
  • select the iOS version (for iPhone 5S it cannot be lower than the seventh);
  • Click Download and get ready to download a file weighing several gigabytes.

The update itself is performed as follows:

  1. Connect your device to your computer via a USB cable.
  2. Switch the gadget to DFU mode by performing the following settings:

○ hold down the Power and Home buttons;

○ after the screen goes dark, release the Power key while continuing to hold Home (the wait will take 10 seconds);

○ if you entered DFU correctly, the computer will notify you through iTunes that the device is in the appropriate mode, while the device itself will remain turned off and nothing should be displayed on the display.


If there is no backup copy, all you have to do is simply disconnect the device from the computer. It is worth noting that updating the device in DFU mode by formatting the memory and installing the OS in its cleared area proceeds more correctly, while failures 47, 3194, 4005, etc. occur quite rarely. Therefore, in case of serious problems, if the gadget is frozen and the usual methods do not help, you need to restore it through DFU.

Errors that prevent you from updating the firmware and how to fix them

Sometimes, for various reasons, it is not possible to complete the phone firmware process due to errors, each of which has its own code - 50, 47, 14, 3194, 4005, 4013, 4014, etc. Let's look at the error codes, as a result of which they arise and how to eliminate them.

50

Error 50 occurs due to the lack of response to the application from the server. At number 50, it occurs not only during the firmware installation, but also when downloading any content from the iTunes Store. Usually the cause is antivirus software settings.

To resolve the issue when code 50 appears, do the following:

  1. Log out and log back into your iTunes account;
  2. Disable all antivirus applications;
  3. Try downloading iOS for your device again;
  4. To solve the problem with error 50, you can also try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it.

Performing these steps does not always cause code 50 to stop preventing you from updating your phone. Sometimes the 50th error is a consequence of viruses that delete iTunes-related files. Therefore, if there is no result, scan your PC for viruses and get rid of them if found.

Sometimes error 50 disappears after cleaning the system of debris (temporary folders and files) with the appropriate software, when updating drivers. You can check the OS system files with the command sfc /scannow (in the Run window field, run as administrator) - this way important Windows data can be returned, including those associated with the appearance of code 50.

3014

Error 3014 occurs when there is not enough free space on the HDD when performing an update. Firmware takes up a lot of space during an update, so error 3014 is often resolved by freeing up disk space. To do this, simply remove unnecessary music and movies, garbage, etc.

47

It's possible that when Error 47 appears, you're dealing with a storage chip hardware problem. This is further indicated by the lack of information about the modem firmware version and IMEI in the “About the device” section. Code 47 also appears when moisture gets into the modem. The case is serious - No. 47 can only be gotten rid of at the service center by replacing the microcircuit.

Sometimes Windows itself throws Error 47 even though it appears to be an iTunes error. This is due to the fact that the OS cannot use the device, since it is prepared for safe shutdown, but is not yet disconnected from the computer. Then, to eliminate failure 47, it is enough to remove the device from the socket and reconnect it.

Error 14 may not allow you to reset the settings and update your phone for several reasons. Firstly, code 14 will cause a failure due to a violation of the firmware files. Often error 14 occurs when trying to install non-original iOS on an iPhone. The solution to problem 14 during installation is to download the archive again from the support site.

Error 14 often occurs due to problems with the equipment, in particular with the USB port or the cable itself. To eliminate No. 14, it will be enough to replace the cable or connect the gadget for updating iOS to a different port. Sometimes the problem also occurs due to a false positive from the antivirus - change the settings or disable applications - error 14 may disappear.

In the simplest case, code 3194 indicates that the version of iTunes with which you are trying to flash your iPhone 5S is outdated. To eliminate Error 3194 in this case, it is enough to reinstall this software on your computer.

Also, the appearance of code 3194 during the update indicates that the Apple server does not have SHSH hashes for this firmware together with your gadget. Therefore, you cannot upgrade to this version of iOS.- error 3194 is eliminated after downloading the current OS version for the gadget.

You can also try removing 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com data from the hosts file. The file is located:

  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows);
  • /etc/hosts – (Mac OS).

To remove code 3194, try disabling your security software. In the iPhone 5S, fault 3194 also occurs when trying to roll back to an older version of the OS - in modern iOS such Downgrade is impossible.

4005

The device issues code 4005 when a critical failure occurs while updating the device. It can occur in Recovery mode. Therefore, to prevent Error 4005 from interfering with the recovery process for any system reasons, carry it out in DFU mode. Try using a different USB cable as well. Also, sometimes disabling the antivirus helps resolve the 4005 failure during update.

Problem 4005 may also be a consequence of not the latest software versions. Try downloading the latest firmware, reinstall iTunes, and then reflash the phone in DFU mode. As a last resort, try to avoid failure 4005 by transferring your work to another computer with iTunes. If this does not help, error 4005 is probably a consequence of hardware problems that can only be fixed by a service provider.

2005, 2009

Codes 2005 and 2009 usually indicate problems with the data cable. To be able to reflash the device and avoid crashes in 2005 and 2009, disconnect the USB devices on the PC, leaving only the keyboard and mouse and the gadget itself. Perform the restore again.

If you cannot solve the problems with the appearance of Error 2005 and 2009, try disabling antivirus applications and scan your PC system files for damage.

4014, 4013

The appearance of codes 4013 and 4014 during the recovery process indicates that critical errors have occurred and that the firmware file cannot be uploaded to the device. The first problem with Error 4013 can be solved by flashing it in DFU mode.

Failure 4014 may be able to be fixed if you try to reflash the device from another PC. In both cases, it is advisable to use a different USB cable.
