How to show hidden folders in total commander. Setting up Total Commander - wise tips. Total Commander - description of functions

In the list of file managers, Total Commander (hereinafter TC) is the most popular. And this is not surprising, because the program provides very comfortable work with disks, folders and files and, in addition to providing standard capabilities characteristic of of this class applications, has many interesting features that simplify the work. In particular, it remembers frequently used directories, supports working with bookmarks, and provides quick search(including inside files), allows you to configure hotkeys, etc. In addition, the program provides support for popular archivers and has a built-in FTP client that allows you to download files in several streams, supports resuming and can work according to a schedule. And its capabilities can be expanded through plug-ins. This article will be devoted to getting to know the most interesting of them, but first we will briefly look at the types of plugins and the nuances of their installation.

What are the plugins and how to install them

There are four types of TC plugins: archiver plugins (have the WCX extension), file system plugins (WFX), internal viewer plugins (WLX) and content plugins (WDX). Archiving plugins are used to work with archives that are not initially supported in the file manager or are supported with restrictions. In addition, with the help of archiving plugins, support for working with a number of other file formats is implemented - CHM, MSI, ICL, DLL, etc. File system plugins are available in TC via network(Fig. 1) and provide access to disks, remote systems, internal Windows modules, media with other file systems. Internal viewer plugins allow you to view file formats not supported by Lister's internal viewer - images, tables, databases, etc. Content plugins are designed to provide access to extended file information - MP3 tags, EXIF header information in JPEG images, etc.

Today, there are already hundreds of plugins for TC, and it is impossible to even simply list them within the framework of the article, and it does not make much sense, since many plugins, if they do not duplicate each other, then have very similar purposes. We will focus only on those solutions that may be of interest to a wide range of users.

The most popular and well-proven plugins along with their brief description are presented on the official website of the program (http://www.ghisler.com/addons.htm), as well as on the Russian-language website “All about Total Commander” (http://wincmd.ru/). New plugins are available from the unofficial TC website (http://www.totalcmd.net/).

You can install plugins automatically or manually. Automatic installation does not cause any difficulties: just open the downloaded archive with the plugin in the file manager and the program itself will offer to install the detected module (Fig. 2). True, so automatic installation Not available for all plugins.

Connecting additional modules manually is done in the settings window called up by the command Configuration -> Settings, where in the section Plugins you should click on the button with the right type plugin and indicate the location of the installed module. For archiving plugins additionally in the list Files with the extension you will need to specify the extension of those files that should be associated with the plugin being installed (Fig. 3). If there are several similar extensions, then the operation of specifying a module with a plugin is performed several times, each time entering a different extension.

Comfortable viewing

Built-in viewer file manager(Lister) allows you to view a fairly limited list of file formats by pressing the F3 key. The situation can be easily corrected by installing the appropriate plugins.

After connecting the plugin IEView(http://wincmd.ru/plugring/ieview.html) it will be possible to view files in a variety of formats. This plugin uses the same engine for viewing files as Internet Explorer, and is great for viewing hypertext documents (including documents in MHT and CHM formats). In addition, it allows you to view documents of other formats through the software installed on your computer - PDF documents (if you have Acrobat Reader installed - Fig. 4), Word/Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations (if you have the MS Office package), etc. You can also configure viewing files in DjVu format by installing Browser Plugin and uncommenting in the section file ieview.ini the corresponding line. Viewing AutoCAD documents is configured in the same way (an appropriate viewer is required - for example, VoloView), etc.

Rice. 4. View PDF Document Using IEView

IEView plugin can also be used to view files Shockwave Flash. However, it is more convenient to use specialized plugins for this purpose - for example SWF Lister 2.0(http://wincmd.ru/plugring/swf_lister.html; Fig. 5), since there is a playback scroll bar.

Rice. 5. View a SWF file using SWF Lister

Using this plugin in the file manager, it will be possible to create and unpack archives in 7z format, as well as view their contents. To use the plugin, for example, to package files, you need to select them, press the key combination Alt+F5, in the window that opens, select the 7z option in the list of archiver extensions and, if necessary, adjust the archiving settings by clicking on the button Settings(Fig. 9).

Working with CD/DVDs and images

If you want to make working with CD/DVD discs more comfortable and reliable, then you should get a virtual compact drive by installing a plugin Virtual Disk(http://wincmd.ru/plugring/virtdisk.html). It will be possible to mount images of CD/DVD discs into such a drive much faster than inserting them into a real drive, and without any harm to the discs themselves, which often become unreadable due to active use. This plugin allows you to emulate a virtual compact drive and connect images to it (in ISO format, as well as some BIN and NRG images) made from unprotected CDs. In addition, it can be used to emulate local hard drive or floppy disk.

For the plugin to work, in addition to installing it in automatic mode, you need to install the virtual disk driver by calling the command in Windows Explorer from the context menu on the file Program Files\totalcmd\plugins\wfx\VirtualDisk\VD_Driver\vd_filedisk.inf Install. And then restart your computer.

The principle of mounting images into the one created after installing the module virtual drive very simple: you should copy it in the file manager to a folder VirtualDisk (this folder will appear in Network environment after installing the plugin) the necessary file images, and then to mount one of them on a virtual drive, double-click on this image, select the mode CD/DVD and click on the button To plug(Fig. 10). You can also enable the checkbox Restore on reboot, which makes sense if you have to work with the mounted image regularly. After that, in the disk rollout in TC and in the window Windows Explorer the desired virtual drive with the connected image will appear.

Rice. 10. Mounting the image into the VirtualDisk virtual drive

There is another option - install a plugin ISO(http://wincmd.ru/plugring/iso.html). With its help you can read images in ISO formats, BIN, IMG and NRG without mounting them into a virtual drive. This will allow, for example, to quickly view files from the image (Fig. 11) and copy all or part of them to HDD for further work.

Rice. 11. View image contents via ISO plugin

Data Cataloging

It’s not easy to navigate among the folders and files stored on a variety of disks, because most users have dozens, or even hundreds, of CDs alone, and even more pictures, documents, audio recordings. Therefore, without using some kind of cataloguer that would provide the ability to quickly find out where required disk or file, today is not enough. If there is relatively little data to be cataloged, then it is quite possible to make do with the capabilities of specialized TC plugins.

Total Commander is a convenient and functional application that will make it easier to work with file system computer. This program is so easy to use that it is considered genius! It makes working with your PC even easier. New opportunities open up for you, such as viewing hidden folders, smart search inside files, analyzing disks for duplicate documents, audio files, etc. And you can get all this for free.

But the most interesting thing is that Total Commander can be completely customized! This is another aspect of the genius of this program that cannot be ignored.

Setting up Total Commander is largely a personal process. Probably, you, like many fans of such programs, after installing the application, immediately go to the file or menu with configurations to see what functions are available and what can be changed. So, you will like Total Commander even more when you see the limitless number of options that can be configured inside the program! Will this article show you how to do this?

Where Total Commander saves settings

If you are an advanced user and want to get to the very essence of this file manager, you can use the same Total to find the program configuration files. Total Commander does not have one settings file, but many. And each file is responsible for some key function program that you can customize.

Each settings file is in ini format. If you remember, during installation of the program you were asked to select the path for the ini settings files on your computer. If you have not yet selected it, that is, you have not installed Total Commander, then you have an excellent chance to predetermine where the application configurations will be located so that you can easily find them later.

The key settings file is wincmd.ini. It is considered key because this file contains the settings for Total Commander as a file manager, and this is the main task of this program. The wcx_ftp.ini file is responsible for setting up the program as an FTP client. And the usercmd.ini file stores your custom commands that you set in the settings - more on this later in the article. The remaining four configuration files are responsible for setting up various plugins.

Please note that to change the settings of the Total Commander program, you do not need to look for a configuration file - everything can be done directly in the menu. The only file you will need to click to do this is the program shortcut to launch the file manager.

How to set up Total Commander

Let's start with the fact that the Total Commander program has a very convenient toolbar. Once you try to use it, you will understand that the standard guide is hellishly boring and irrational. You can place your own icons in the panel for quick access to commands, applications and various actions. Not only is there a convenient panel, but you can also create a subpanel!

Another big plus of Total is that it is very fast work. The program is so well thought out that even the described panel is not loaded every time the page is refreshed - it is loaded only once when opened, and is stored in separate file. Bottom line, you can load up the toolbar with as many features as you like and it will still work fast! Over time you will start to get angry at standard features yours operating system, because it is absolutely not thought out. After all, even “Start” in Windows will work worse than the toolbar in the Total Commander program!

To add quick access to a program to the control panel, you can simply drag the shortcut onto the interface using the mouse. This sounds almost fantastic, because there are few programs of this kind that allow you to perform such actions. Just remember Far with its terminal and commands. Or think about Windows Explorer, which does not allow you to perform such actions at all.

But the most interesting thing about the toolbar is not that you can drag shortcuts into the interface, but that you can even open files this way. For example, imagine that you have a shortcut for the Daemoon Tools program in your panel and you have an unmounted image on your computer. To open it through Daemoon Tools, you just need to drag the image onto the toolbar and point it at the program shortcut! After this, Daemoon Tools will open and you can create virtual disk. This is very convenient, as you will soon realize. Therefore, use the toolbar to the maximum.

And don't worry about experimenting with the toolbar. Try posting on it various programs and even folders. If you try to drag a file onto the panel on the icon of a specific folder, it will be quickly copied to the selected directory! You won't find anything like this anywhere. So approach the toolbar without prejudice, but with enthusiasm and great interest - it can do a lot.

As for the top menu, you should not disable it if you think that it slows down the Total Commander program. In fact, you may not even suspect that this menu, like the control panel, supports the Drag`n`Drop option - that is, you can drag files onto it and use it to perform various actions. But it’s even better to use various commands, which will soon become a substitute for the mouse - you will learn to do all the actions only on the keyboard, as happens in American films in moments where there are programmers.

Another useful thing that you definitely need to customize is the “Frequently Used Directories Menu”. Probably, many of you dreamed that in a standard Explorer you could independently configure frequently visited folders that are displayed there. But alas, this can only be done in the Total Commander program. To open the menu, either press Ctrl+D or double-click on the current folder. In the “Frequently Used Directories Menu” you can create entire categories and subcategories to quickly get to the “popular” sections on your computer. To add a new folder to this menu, use a third-party utility - Wincmd Directory Menu Customizer, which will greatly simplify this process.

The most main setting What you need to do in the Total Commander program is to change the hot keys. You have the opportunity to create an individual file manager that will be convenient only for you. To do this, go to the Startup menu and Change Startup Menu. Next, figure out where you want to go using a combination of several keys. For example, you want to speed up the process of getting into a folder with documents, pictures or music. Then add this folder to the menu, specify the path to it below, and before that write the cd function. After this, add a key combination that is not yet used in the Total Commander program and do not forget to save the changes! Now you have a new convenient command of your authorship.

If you want to not only set up hot keys for instantly opening certain directories, but also view other commands, then go to the “Configurations” menu. Next, go to the “Settings” and “General” tabs. There you can see all the teams that are in Total at the moment. Moreover, you can not only view the commands for the Ctrl, Alt, Shift keys together with other keys, but also change the assignment of certain button combinations. Then Total will definitely become an individual application!

You can customize not only ease of use, but also the design of the file manager. To do this, use the third-party utility Aezay TC Color Presets. You can choose different colors for files different formats. This will not only be more beautiful, but also more convenient - you will visually distinguish between files of different formats. In addition to customizing the design, you should definitely configure the file commenting function, which is available in Total starting from version 5.5. Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+F2 keys and you can create comments for various files, which will further simplify working with your computer, because Total saves this data forever and at the same time works just as quickly. And if any of the files are lost, use Total’s smart search.

Total Commander- one of the most popular file managers, dating back to the distant 90s. Even earlier this program had Windows name Commander, but under pressure from developers Windows systems, was renamed to the name it has today.

It’s worth saying right away that the Total Commander program is paid. Its price is $34, but without buying it, we will still be able to use it even after a month, only every time you load it in a special window, the program will ask you to press the number 1, 2 or 3.

I have previously touched on the Total Commander program in my lessons and articles. I talked about and also described its most important advantages in the article:.

Here I will not describe in detail what this program is, how to install it, and why it is needed, since for this I wrote the above materials.

In this article I will describe, how to configure Total Commander immediately after installation. What must be done for comfortable work, and what should be done according to your own discretion and taste, and what you need to know for more productive work on your computer using this wonderful program.

After launching Total Commander for the first time, you will immediately notice that the program interface is divided into two parts, which display a list of files. We can work with disks here. We select the disk we need, and the entire list of files that are located in this location opens. It's the same on the other side.

We can open the drive on one side (C:) and on the other (D:) and calmly move the files by selecting them and pressing the F6 key on the keyboard, or the “F6 Move” button.

In the window that opens, confirm by clicking the “OK” button.

Files from one folder on the drive (D:) have been moved to the root of the drive (C:).

Thus, you can move and copy anything to any folders from any drives. In general, the same thing as we did with standard Windows Explorer, went to My Computer, then to the hard drive, then found there required file or a folder that needs to be moved to another location and the last step was to indicate exactly where to move it. It's the same thing here, only everything is much simpler.

We select on the left what we need to move or copy, and on the right we open the place where these files and folders will be placed and press F5 or F6, depending on what we need to copy or move.

At the very top of Total Commander there is a menu, like in all other programs. Below it is a toolbar, by default there are a couple of programs - built-in FTP client, archiver, notepad and more. There are also several useful buttons - forward back through folders, file display type and some more.

At the bottom of the program there is Command line, well, this is for those who have already worked with it. I rarely use it to be honest.

Under command line the buttons that we have already touched upon, a hotkey is immediately indicated next to each of them. These buttons are mainly responsible for working with folders and files. You can copy, move, delete, edit, create new folders.

I like the way files with folders are displayed in the left and right columns. There is a list of files and folders, they all have their own name, next to them are indicated: type, size, date, attributes. Conveniently enough, this view is called Detailed.

The list of files may have a different look, perhaps you like one of them more. I’ll just list them, and below I’ll show how this look can be changed.

Brief - in this form, all content is displayed in several columns, and there is nothing next to the name. All that remains is the name and extension.

Comments – similar to the Detailed mode, but here you will also see one column where you can see a comment for each file or folder, if any.

View thumbnails– in this mode, instead of a list of files, we get a display of all folders and files with large icons. I use it when sorting photos. See for yourself:

Directory tree– files and folders will be in the form of a tree. Look, you will understand everything:

You can select any of the types through the “View” menu, and there we already indicate the one we need.

IN Total program Commander is quite a lot various functions, plus over the years of the program’s existence, a bunch of different additions have appeared. It’s not possible to cover everything in one article, but I’ll tell you the main points.

At the very bottom there are seven buttons that we have touched on more than once - View, Edit, Copy, Move, Directory, Delete, Exit. Each has a hotkey.

Total Commander has in its arsenal an application for viewing files. You need to select the file and press F3 on the keyboard, or the “F3 View" button in the program.

When viewing a text file, you can only see what kind of text is there; you cannot edit it. For this there are other applications about them further.

Hotkey F4 or the “F4 Edit” button is responsible for editing text documents. Select the file, press F4, the file opens for editing in a regular notepad installed in the system by default.

But you can change the default opening of text files for editing from Notepad to another text editor, such as Notepad. I use it exactly and I want that when I press the “F4 Edit” button, the file for editing will open in Notepad. This can be done.

You need to go into the Total Commander settings. Go to the menu " Configuration - Settings».

Go to the “Edit/View” section. Specify the path to the installed Notepad program. Then save using the “OK” button.

Let's try to open it now Text Document via the F4 key. It opens in Notepad, and not as before in a standard notepad.

The F5 and F6 buttons are already familiar to you. We know that they are responsible for moving and copying selected files from one panel to the next.

By selecting a file and pressing the F6 key, you can not only move it, but also rename it. To do this, select the file name that we want to change, then press F6, delete the moving path and write a new file name. Then click “OK”.

In this case, it will not move anywhere, but will simply be renamed and remain in the same place.

Using the “F7 Directory” button you can create a new folder. We stand in the place on the hard drive where the new folder should appear, press F7, enter the name and click “OK”. The folder has been created.

Selected objects are deleted using F8.

Selected files in Total Commander can be distinguished from regular ones by the fact that the selected ones are red.

To select several files at once, you need hold down the Ctr key and start clicking on the objects you want to select. This can also be done with a space. Select the file, press the space bar, and do the same with the others that need to be selected.

In addition to highlighting with a space folder size is calculated. If this folder weighs a lot and there is a decent number of files there, then you will have to wait a few seconds for the calculation.

The next convenient feature in Total Commander that I would like to talk about is tab support.

As you can see, I have three tabs open at once. On this moment I’m in the “shortcut” tab, I can go to “downloads” or “web-master”, I have other folders open there. You can open as many tabs as you like.

You can create a tab by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctr+T. It is very convenient to use them if we constantly have to move from one folder to another. Also new tab can be created by clicking right click by the one that already exists, and in the list that appears, selecting the item “ Open a copy of the tab».

And when a copy of the tab opens, you can go to it and open the folder you need there. You can quickly switch between tabs using the keyboard shortcut Ctr+Tab. By the way, after closing the program and launching it again, the tabs retain their previous location. So keep that in mind.

Now let's talk about archiving in Total Commander. To pack some files or folders into an archive, you first need to select them, and then click the menu “ Files – Pack».

A window with file packaging settings will appear. Here we can see the path where the archive will be placed. There is not much to change here, except for the format in which we want to receive the archive. We choose RAR or ZIP, others are rarely used.

But Total Commander itself can only work with ZIP; if we want RAR, then a program must be installed separately on the computer, for example WinRAR. You also need to select it through the “Settings” button.

Specify the folder with the installed archiver. Click "OK".

Click “OK” when everything is configured.

Unpacking the archive is no more difficult. Select it with the mouse and click " Files – Unzip" In the window that opens, click “OK”.

Like the standard Windows Explorer, Total Commander also has its own search. And it is much more convenient and functional. You can launch it by clicking on the binoculars icon or through the menu “ Commands – Search Files».

We open the search built into Total Commander. This is what he looks like.

On the “General Settings” tab, you can set basic settings.

In field File name we need to enter the name of the file we want to find. There is also an arrow nearby, by clicking on which we will see what we were already looking for earlier. We also need to indicate where exactly we want to search. You can select a folder or the entire disk at once. By checking the box next to “ Search also in archives", the search will still be carried out in the archives. This feature is not available in standard Windows Explorer. To start the search, click the “Start search” button.

You can also use this search to search for specific text in text files. I use this function most often when developing websites; you may find it useful for something else.

We indicate the folder or drive, then enter the text that you want to find and click “Start search”.

The search function will try to find all files where this text occurs, examining all text files that will be located in the folder or disk specified by you.

To be honest, this is only a small part what Total Commander can do and it has much more settings. You just can’t fit everything into one lesson, the main thing is to start using this program.

Over time, you will learn all its convenient features and configure Total Commander to suit your needs.

Total Commander is essentially an analogue of Windows Explorer, but it is much more efficient and easier to manage. For many users, this file manager has long been vital necessary tool, from which work on the PC begins. The popularity of Total Commander is also largely determined by its weak level of payment protection. This file manager is distributed under a Shareware license, i.e. it is implied free use within a month. But in fact, even after the free month of use, Total Commander is not blocked.

Just press one of the three numbers (1, 2 or 3) and after counting down the seconds, the manager will start. There will be no restrictions on the functionality of the program.
You can download the current version of Total Commander on the official website page. At the time of writing, the infinite trial version of Total Commander 8.51a is current, both 32-bit and 64-bit.
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that during the installation of Total Commander you can select the folder where the configuration files are located, for which you need to click on the “Set path to INI files” button. Now you can easily transfer your Total Commander settings to another computer simply by copying the INI files.

I chose the program directory to store INI files (convenient when the program is used from different operating systems). If you use several versions of Total Commander on your computer, then it is better to store the INI files in the Windows directory.

The Total Commander user interface is designed in a classic two-panel form, which is very convenient when performing a variety of manipulations with files and folders.

Setting up Total Commander

Let's go through the settings of Total Commander; to do this, select "Configuration" - "Settings" from the top menu. Window view - here are some of the most important settings that determine the appearance of the file manager window.

In order to add or remove certain components of the main window, just uncheck or check the checkbox; after clicking the "Apply" button, you can see the changes made with your own eyes. If you are satisfied with everything, click “OK”.
On the tab "Panel Contents" provides the opportunity to configure work with files and folders on the manager panels.

Settings items: Icons, Fonts, and Colors arrange to your liking.
In the tab "Tabulators" we configure tab stop positions (size, file type, date), and also set a template for displaying file sizes. For me personally, it is more convenient when the size of files (folders) is shown not in bytes, but in Mb, Gb or Kb.

Agree that it is not very convenient to often open a folder that is located somewhere deep in the directory.
You can pin frequently used tabs to the file panel as follows. Open the desired folder and right-click on it. From the context menu, select the option or "Rename/Lock tab" . You can also use hotkeys: Ctrl+T - create a tab, Ctrl+W - delete a tab.

If there are a lot of blocked tabs, then they can be evenly distributed across both manager panels simply by dragging them with the mouse. Don't forget to save changes from the top menu "Configuration" - "Save position" and "Save settings" . Now you have the necessary tabs, which will not disappear until you change the settings. While working with the program for a long time, it may happen that you have many tabs open. In order to close them on any of the tabs, right-click and select the item from the menu "Close all tabs" or click on the hotkey combination "Ctrl+Shift+W". After this, all unlocked and inactive tabs on the file manager panel you selected will close.
The next important setting item "Basic Operations" .

Connecting the Notepad++ editor to Total Commander by default

The best text file editor, in my opinion, is Notepad++. How can I make it the default editor in Total Commander? On the next settings tab "Edit/View" you can connect external programs to view and edit files in Total Commander by pressing the F3 (view) or F4 (edit) button.
Choose Editor program- a path selection window will open where you need to find Notepad++ on your computer.

Setting up hot keys in

It is worth noting that Total Commander by default has great amount keyboard shortcuts for work. The list of hotkeys can be viewed by clicking on the "Help" button in the upper right corner of Total Commander. It is noteworthy that in the settings item "Miscellaneous" You can redefine hotkeys in the manager at your discretion. Let's set, for example, showing and hiding system files keyboard shortcut Ctrl+H - cm_SwitchHidSys.

So, I recommend assigning the following hotkey combinations:
"Ctrl+W" - cm_CopyNamesToClip- copy file names to the clipboard. You can copy one or more file names at once.
"Alt+W" - cm_CopyFullNamesToClip- copy file names with their location paths to the clipboard. Significantly saves time!
"Shift+Home" - cm_OpenDesktop- open the "Desktop" tab in the Total Commander window. It is often convenient to start work from the desktop, and from here you can go to the Control Panel, etc.
"Shift+BackSpace" - cm_GoToRoot- go to the root directory of the disk from anywhere. Also a very useful thing. Clicking "Ctrl+\" you also, by default, go to the root directory of the disk. Well, just a key "BackSpace" by default in Total it moves one level higher.

On the official website of the Total Commander developer you can find and download a great variety of plugins: http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm. If you don’t want to bother translating their descriptions into Russian, then visit the Russian-language website http://wincmd.ru. New plugins are also available from the unofficial TC website (http://www.totalcmd.net/).
If you open the tab "Plugins" in the Total Commander settings, you will see that the plugins themselves are divided into four types: Archive plugins (have the WCX extension), File system plugins (WFX), Internal viewer plugins (WLX) and Information plugins (WDX).

Archiving plugins allow you to work with archives that are not initially supported in the file manager or are supported with restrictions. Using archiving plugins, support is provided for working with a number of other file formats - CHM, MSI, ICL, DLL, etc. File system plugins allow you to access disks that are inaccessible from Windows, remote systems, internal Windows modules, and media with other file systems. Internal viewer plugins allow you to view files of various formats, incl. not supported by Lister's internal viewer, such as images, tables, databases, etc. Information plugins are designed to provide access to extended information about files (MP3 tags, image attributes, etc.)
There are two ways to install plugins: automatically and manually. Automatic installation does not cause any difficulties: just open the downloaded archive with the plugin in the Total Commander panel and the manager itself will offer to install the detected module. However, automatic installation is not provided for all plugins.

Connection additional plugins manually is also not difficult. To install the plugin, unpack the contents of the archive into a separate folder. It is best to create a subdirectory in the directory with the Total Commander manager "Plugins" , where you can create separate folders for each plugin separately. In the future, this policy will allow you to avoid confusion in the Total Commander folders.
Now you need to open the Total Commander settings Configuration - Settings , where in the section Plugins you should click on the button "Settings" with the required plugin type. In the drop-down window, click "Add" and select a file with the extension .wfx (wdx, wcx or wlx) - the actual file of the plugin to be installed from the folder we created. All! The plugin is installed.

To see which plugins of each type are installed in your Total Commander build, click the button "Tune" in the relevant area. I emphasized the archiver plugins in my manager build.

Thanks to installed plugins you can view any folders and files on the adjacent Total Commander panel using a hotkey combination "Ctrl+Q". If you navigate through files in one panel, their contents will be displayed in the adjacent viewing panel.

There are many software to manage Windows OS parameters, these include plugins built into the system, various tweakers, and system utilities. There are many plugins developed for Total Commander that solve the same problem. Using TS file system plugins makes it possible to keep your finger on the pulse of your computer's OS from the familiar and very convenient interface of the TS file manager and perform many operations much faster than through the built-in Windows tools.

File system plugins are available in Total Commander via network

Very easy to use Uninstaller 64 plugin , which is designed to quickly uninstall applications that are in the list "Installation and removal of programms" panels Windows management. The plugin allows you to view all entries, including hidden ones, and works much faster than the built-in Windows uninstaller. To uninstall an application using this plugin, you need to highlight the line with the program name and press the Enter key. The plugin is also used to remove broken links (Del or F8 buttons) and view the uninstallation command (F3 or Ctrl+Q).

Thanks to the plugin ProcFS Task Manager you can view running processes on your PC, including those that can hide from the standard manager Windows tasks. The panel shows the name of the process, its type, the amount of memory occupied by the process, and the time it started. The plugin allows you to view properties running processes and the libraries they use (F3), change processes' priorities (double-click on the process) and unload them (Del).

Services2 plugin is a convenient tool for working with Windows services. This plugin allows you to view a list of services, and by appearance icons you can immediately understand whether the service is running or stopped. The plugin allows you to quickly change the launch mode of a specific service (manual, automatic, disabled), you can pause the service, delete or start the service. All of the above operations are performed in the service properties window, which opens double click mouse on the service line or by pressing the Enter key.

Quick Tabs and Files in Total Commander

Open a folder in Total Commander that you want to save and quickly access and press the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + D" or click on the star in the upper right corner of the panel. IN Google Chrome this keyboard shortcut adds to bookmarks, and in Total Commander – to the quick access menu. From the context menu, select "Add current directory" .

You can select any of the proposed submenu types. By clicking again on the star or keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + D" you can view a list of your directories that you have quick access to. This menu can also be called up using the mouse - by double-clicking on the name of the current directory.

Total Commander Control Panel

Adding shortcuts to programs, internal commands, as well as any system command to the Total Commander toolbar is quite simple. You must either drag the exe file of the program onto the panel itself or enter the path to the program manually.
First option. Go to the "Program Files" folder and drag the exe file of the program onto the Total Commander panel.

Second option. Right-click on an empty space in the toolbar and then “Edit”. In the window that opens, click “Add” and add the program by specifying the full path to it exe file. I prefer to use the first option.

If, after clicking the “Add” button, you click the small button with a magnifying glass, then you will see a huge list of commands provided in Total Commander.

At the bottom of the window in the box "Filter" , indicate, for example, the command number 2400 (group rename) and click "OK". An additional icon will appear in the toolbar; by clicking on it, you can rename the entire list of files at once.

The Total toolbar is also interesting because other files and folders can interact with the programs pinned here. Drag, for example, the folder containing mp3 files onto the AIMP3 player icon in the toolbar. Your audio files will start playing one after another. Similarly, drag the CSS file onto the icon text editor Notepad++ and the program will open it immediately. Drag"n Drop (take and throw) from file panels to the shortcuts of the folders we created earlier will cause files to be copied to these folders!
If your Total Commander is in startup, then thanks to the installed program launch icons directly from the TS manager toolbar, you will not need to install extra shortcuts on your desktop. If necessary, unnecessary icons can be easily removed from the toolbar in the same way as they are installed: after highlighting the unnecessary icon, click on the “Delete” button and the icon will disappear.
At the bottom of the manager there are function key buttons

These buttons also support Drag"n Drop, so the most convenient way to use them is not by pressing the F3, F4, F5 buttons themselves, but by dragging selected files and folders onto these buttons. Believe me, it’s more convenient this way. And if you right-click on the F8 button, it will open context menu, where you can empty the Trash or view its properties.

The FTP client integrated into Total Commander allows you to connect to your website (blog) without any problems and provides the necessary information. To select a connection, just press the key combination CTRL+F, and if you have not configured a single connection yet, then in the window that opens, simply click on the “Add” button.

The FTP connection settings are not much different from the FileZilla FTP client settings, so you already know what to do next.

Connecting network drives in Total Commander

Turn on "Net" in the Total Commander setup menu. Select function .
In the window that appears, select the drive and folder in which you want to store the information. You can specify the path to the site where images and documents will be stored.

Basic operations with folders/files in Total Commander

All actions with folders/files in the file manager are performed extremely simply, literally, by pressing one or two buttons.

Selecting files

Before performing operations on several objects at once, they must first be selected. This can be done by right-clicking on each object or left-clicking, after holding down the Ctrl key.

Renaming files

Place the cursor over the desired file/folder and double-click on the object (but not very quickly!) with the left mouse button, the object will turn blue, and then set a new name.

Deleting files

Select the desired file/folder or select several at once. Then, press F8 - the delete key.

Copy/move files

Select the desired file/folder or several at once in one file manager panel. Then, in another panel, select the folder where you want to copy/move these objects and press the F5 or F6 button accordingly.

Select on any panel the required number of files that will need to be renamed using a specific mask and press the key combination Ctlr+M.

Setting up internal associations is available from the "Files" menu. All files that you open in Total Commander with a double click can be associated i.e. configure their opening by any programs on your computer.

Working with archives

You can pack (Alt+F5), unpack (Alt+F9) and check (Alt+Shift+F9) archives using the archive plugins installed in Total Commander. In addition, you can enter archives like regular folders, which significantly saves your time.

Search by files in Total Commander

To quickly find important folders or files on the disk, use the search function integrated into the file manager by clicking on the “magnifying glass” icon on the toolbar or use the Alt+F7 key combination. If you search for files in Russian, do not forget to check the "UTF-8" checkbox. All additional settings(size, creation date, available attributes) for searching you will find in the tab "Additionally" .

Splitting a file into fragments

Breakdown large file into fragments of a given size is available from the menu "Files" . The cut file can be assembled in reverse order through the same menu. This function can be useful, for example, when sending large files by email.
