Correct installation of ICQ using QIP as an example. Problems with ICQ What can you do?

No matter how legendary one of the most popular instant messengers in Russia is, this does not change the fact that it is a program, and therefore it is prone to glitches. Of course, problems need to be solved, preferably immediately and without delay.

Here you will need to enter the login used to log in (this could be a phone number, UIN code or address Email), and also pass captcha verification.

If a similar error appears in several people at once, then it is worth considering that this moment work is being done on the service.

In such a situation, all that remains is to wait until the service starts working again and everything returns to its place.

Connection error

There are also frequent situations when the login and password are accepted by the system, the connection process begins... and that’s it. The program persistently reports a connection failure; when you press the authorization button again, nothing happens.

Reason 1: Internet problems

For any problem, you should first look for a solution to the problem on your device. In this situation, it is worth checking the functionality of the network.

Another option would be to have your firewall block ICQ from accessing the Internet.

After this, the connection is usually restored if the problem lay in the user’s computer itself.

Reason 2: System load

The reason that the program is unable to connect to the servers may be a simple overload of the computer. A high load may not leave any resources to complete the connection and, as a result, it is simply dropped.

So the only solution here is to clear the computer memory and reboot.

Reason 3: Maintenance

Again, the reason for the system’s failure to work may be trivial engineering works. They are held especially often recently, since the service is rapidly developing and updates arrive almost every week.

The solution remains the same - we just have to wait for the developers to turn everything on again. It is worth noting that this happens extremely rarely; usually access to servers is blocked at the authorization level, so the program simply stops accepting account login data. But the inability to connect after logging in also happens.

Crashes when logging in

It can also happen that a program successfully accepts login information, connects to the network... and then shuts down completely. This is not normal behavior and will require a fix or “repair” of the program.

Reason 1: Program crash

Most often, this is due to a breakdown in the protocols of the program itself. This can happen after an incorrect shutdown of the computer, due to fragmentation, the influence of third-party processes (including viruses), and so on.

First, you should try restarting the process itself. After the initial self-closure, the process could remain in operation. Should be checked in "Task Manager" whether it is executed or not.

If the process remains, you should close it through right button mouse and then try to run the program again. It would also be a good idea to restart your computer.

If this does not help, then you should reinstall the ICQ client, first uninstalling the previous version.

Reason 2: Virus activity

As mentioned earlier, the cause of the breakdown may be the trivial activity of various malware. There are specialized virus programs, which disrupt the performance of instant messengers, including ICQ.

To begin with, you should carry out complete cleaning computer from a virus environment. Further actions do not make sense without this, since no matter how many times the program is reinstalled, the virus will still break it again and again.

All interlocutors are offline

A fairly common problem is when, after authorization and logging into ICQ, the program demonstrates that absolutely all friends from the contact list are offline. Of course, such a situation can happen in reality, but in certain cases it can be a mistake. For example, if in CL there are interlocutors who are online 24 hours a day, but now they are not, or if offline the user’s profile itself is even shown, added as a friend.

Reason 1: Connection failed

The reason for this may be a broken protocol for connecting to ICQ servers, when the program seems to have received a connection, but does not accept data from the server.

In such a situation, you should try restarting the program. If this does not help and the reasons listed below also do not confirm themselves, you should completely reinstall the messenger. This usually helps.

In very rare cases, this may be due to problems with the ICQ server. As a rule, such problems are quickly resolved by the organization's employees.

Reason 2: Internet problems

Sometimes the reason for such strange behavior on the computer may be improper operation of the Internet. In such a situation, it is worth trying to reconnect the connection. It would be a good idea to restart your computer.

If this does not help, you should try to check the functionality of the Internet through a browser or other programs that use the connection. If you find problems, you should contact your provider and report your problem.

Mobile app

With official mobile application ICQ can also have its own problems. As a rule, most of them are approximately similar to problems in the operation of a computer analogue - incorrect login and password entry, connection error, and so on. This will be resolved accordingly. Individual problems include the following:

  1. If the user does not allow the application to access various services and components of the device when it is first launched, the functionality of the application may be impaired. There may be no network connection, the ability to use third-party files, and so on.
    • To solve the problem you should go to "Settings" phone.
    • The following example is given for ASUS phone Zenfone. Need to go to "Applications".
    • Here at the top you should click the gear icon - the settings sign.
    • Now you need to choose "Application Permissions".
    • A list will open various systems, as well as which applications have access to them. You should check everything and enable ICQ where this program is in the list.

After this everything should work as it should.

  2. It is extremely rare to have an incompatibility problem. operating system and phone models with the ICQ application. The program may either not work at all on such a device, or may not work properly.

It is best to install the application from Play Market, since this service automatically detects and reports the incompatibility of the program with the phone model.

If such a problem occurs, there is only one thing left to do - look for analogues that can work on this device.

Most often, this situation is typical for tablets and phones from little-known Chinese companies. Using official devices from well-known international brands reduces this likelihood to a minimum.

Conclusion

There are also other problems that may arise with the performance of the ICQ application, but in most cases these are individual problems and are extremely rare. The bulk of common problems are described above and are completely solvable.

Currently the growth rate information technologies truly amazing. Just a few years ago, people could not even imagine that they would be able to communicate through a computer or any other device, being in different parts of the world!

Today we will talk about one of the most common Internet services instant messages– ICQ. A special feature of the system is that messages between users are delivered instantly, so you can have a full-fledged dialogue with the interlocutor, unlike email. Tens of millions of people use this service every day.

The user sends messages to the interlocutor through a specialized messenger on a device connected to the Internet, then the messenger connects to the server and communicates with other clients through it.

How to join the ICQ society?

The process of installing and configuring the messenger is quite simple. Now we will look at the main steps to implement this simple task.

First, you should choose which messenger you like best. Now there are a great many such programs:

  • for Windows there are ICQ messengers;
  • Miranda;
  • for Linux systems – Jabber, and many others.

Let's look at the QIP program in its new version QIP 2012, as on the messenger with the most attractive, in my opinion, interface..qip.ru/2012/qip2012_nosms_7102.exe

After downloading installation file we see this window:

Then click “Run” and select Russian language for installation. After this we are asked to select the installation type:

Choose standard typical installation. Next we see a login form:

In this version of QIP we can log in through the social networks “Vkontakte”, “Facebook” and “Twitter”. Let’s try logging in through the “VKontakte” service, enter the e-mail from the “contact”, if the data is correct, click the “Continue” button.

The updated QIP 2012 appears by default in the right corner of the screen. Since we used the login through the VKontakte social network, only our VKontakte friends are displayed in the contacts window. QIP 2012 will take on a similar appearance when logging in via Facebook or Twitter.

To add your contacts from the ICQ service, you need to go to the main menu by clicking the button with the phone number at the bottom of the messenger, go to the “Add account” section and select ICQ:

In the form, enter our UIN and password.

After this we can see all our ICQ contacts. This completes the ICQ installation process successfully and we move on to another important aspect - setting up the messenger to suit our needs and convenience.

Configuring the QIP messenger to suit your needs

As we can see, in the top QIP menu there are standard options: “Show/hide offline contacts” (press this button if you don’t want to see interlocutors who are not on the network), “Turn on/off group display mode” (here optional and depending on availability these same groups, you can not touch the button), “Turn on/off sounds”, “Private lists” (lists of those who see you in invisibility mode, those who never see you and those who are ignored), “History” for all users and dialogues, general “Settings”, and a new option is “Selective Sending”, which allows you to select specific users and send the same text to them. By the way, a very convenient option for sending invitations and any news to friends.

QIP messenger section “Settings”

QIP messenger settings window

So, let's start setting up QIP for ourselves from the very top section - “General”. By default, there are several checkboxes here, leave the checkboxes as desired, I recommend leaving the following options: “Start QIP at system startup” - so as not to search for the messenger icon later, “Check daily for a new version of QIP”, “Authorize on services in the browser”, and “Store my account settings on the server.”

The “Save password” option can be checked if you use the computer exclusively and no one has access to your correspondence. Otherwise, by choosing to save your password, anyone who logs in as you will be logged in as you and can read your message history or message your friends on your behalf.

QIP section “Contact List”

Here we are most interested in the window settings: I recommend choosing the “On top of all windows”, “Normal window title” location and closing the window using the “Close” button.
In the same section we can select a suitable font and select various options - now you can not check them, but leave them selected by default.

Below the Contact List is the Events section.

"Events" section

We select a position on the screen - by default it is the lower right corner, which is quite convenient, and a pop-up style. I advise you not to set notifications about statuses, otherwise you risk being inundated with messages about who changed their status and when, entered the network, etc. Unless you can note the display of information that one of your contacts is dialing you a message. I also strongly recommend turning off pop-up messages - at first it seems convenient, but then it starts to get boring and again gives your guests the opportunity to spy on what they are writing to you.

This version of QIP has a lot of settings for messages. Let's start by indicating the name in the message window - here you can write your nickname or name. Next, select “Communication Style”. In my opinion, best option– these are standard side tabs. In this embodiment, the message window looks like this:

On the right in the window the logins of those with whom we corresponded, as well as the history of messages, are displayed. By the way, in the message window you can configure another important option: sending messages by pressing the “enter” button. To do this, click the outermost button above the text entry field and click the fourth icon from the left.

Let's look at what other settings the message window offers us. So, let's start studying in detail. The first icon is emoticons, then there is an option for quotes - aka quoting last message interlocutor for the most convenient style of dialogue, ready-made response templates (you can add them yourself in the “Settings” -> “Messages” -> “Ready Answers” section), message history, sending files, then we observe General settings, which we have already seen earlier, sending messages by pressing the “Enter” key, enabling/disabling sending notifications about typing (if the option is enabled, the interlocutor will see that you are typing a message to him), clearing the dialog window, compact window mode (after pressing the top part of the window and part of the bottom disappear), and the option to switch the dialog to a separate window.

If we click on the second “T” button from the right with a brush, we will see tags like [b] appear - these are the so-called BB codes, a message markup language very similar to the html language..wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode.

Next to the tags you can see the option to upload a picture and other tags.

There is also a “Send” button at the bottom of the message window, which allows you to send the same message various types contacts, the dialogue with which is reflected in the tab on the right - by online contacts, by all contacts and selective sending.

The ability to check spelling in the message window should also attract the attention of many users; As in Microsoft Word, incorrectly spelled words are underlined with wavy lines after they are written. You can also add such a check in the “Messages” section in the “Spell Check Settings” item by clicking the “Enable” button.

I'm absolutely sure that this option will not leave any QIP 2012 user indifferent.

Now let's go back to the main menu and go to the "History" section.

Section "History"

Here you can configure the history storage paths (for example, you can select your own folder, avoiding the default one - it usually looks like this: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\QIP\Profiles\profilename\History\) , here you can also specify a different path for storing files - I highly recommend choosing a folder whose location is most convenient for viewing files sent from friends. In this section, you can choose whether to save history and service messages, as well as the number of messages from correspondence to be shown when opening a new dialogue with your interlocutor.

All status settings are located in the “Settings” section of the same name; you can turn on the answering machine and set a timer for status changes. I also draw your attention to the status picture in the window of the messenger itself:

You can choose any icon you like and write a short message describing your state or thoughts at the moment. Your interlocutors will see the picture in their contacts list, and will read the message when they open a dialogue with you. In the same corner of the messenger you can select standard general statuses: “Online”, “Ready to chat”, “Angry”, “Invisible”, “Offline” and others.

Sounds section

There is an option to mute the sound (as you remember, it is also displayed on the top menu of the messenger), as well as setting up sound alerts - you can select the sound you like in .wav format and set it for a specific scenario. To do this, select a script, for example, “Launch QIP” and click the “Change” button, then select your file, click “Apply” and the next time you start QIP, enjoy the selected sound. You can listen to this sound and in the settings window click on the green triangle under events.

Now let's move on to the interface settings.

Section "Interface"

The most interesting thing in this section is the “Colors” and “Interface Language” menus. When we click on the "Colors" menu, we are asked to choose color schemes for the message window, contact list, chat window, general color settings and background color. You can choose a color different from the preset one by clicking on the box with the set color and selecting the color you like in the palette.

Next, we can select hotkeys in the section below, then install various modules or select existing ones (QIP 2012 already has Postcards 1.1, OGOROD social network, QIP Radio, Win-7 installed). We’ll leave the “Connections” section below without our attention - everything is already configured and works great.

If you have a webcam, then you can configure it in the “Video and Sound” section, as well as a microphone and speakers for voice and video communication with friends via QIP.

The lowest section of the main menu is “ Accounts" In this section you can add a new account and delete unnecessary ones. According to all our settings, you should now have two accounts - social network and ICQ.

With this we will finish with the settings in the main menu and move on to a more detailed study of the messenger window.

QIP messenger panel

We have already looked at status pictures earlier, now let’s open the main menu. Let's try docking the contact list to the right or left edge. After this, the list will move to the right (left) edge and stretch to the full height of the screen. In fact, as my experience shows, the location of the messenger is right side most convenient.

We may also change personal account information. To do this, you need to select an account in the “Show/change my data” item. Now we can change general, personal and work information about ourselves.

The new QIP implements the ability to make calls, as we already mentioned. You can make a call if you have funds on your QIP account in the bottom menu by clicking on the call button. Next to it is a button for searching and adding new contacts.

There we can also try to find a new interlocutor by user ID, email address, and also try our luck in casual dating by global search.

This messenger, along with ICQ, has been with us for many years, but due to changes in legislation regarding user identification, in 2018 a series of temporary outages and failures occurred on its portal. Now Qip does not work at all, and in ICQ since December 20, 2018, only the official client is supported, latest version. Read more about why everything happened this way and what users of the program should do now in this article.

Reasons why Qip stopped working

So why is Qip not working in 2019? The previous owners of QIP decided to sell the project rather than bring it into compliance with the new legislation. It was assumed that the new buyer would carry out the required reorganization, update server equipment and after some time the messenger will become working again. In fact, in the fall of 2018, the following announcement even hung on the Qip portal for some time:

The project was sold to Prestige Media LLC. We are updating server equipment. From October 1, 2018, the project will continue its full-fledged work and development. Everything will be fine 🙂 Peace to everyone! 🙂

In fact Qip (including ICQ) does not work in 2019. The official portal seems to be functioning - home page loading, internal links are active; The “Download Qip” button is active - you can select the version to download and install it. However, you will not be able to log in to your Qip profile or register a new one - the system displays an error. Therefore, for now we wait and get out of it in the available ways.

What can be done

The options are as follows:

How to change connection settings in QIP2012

You will need the latest version of the messenger - . Download it from the link under the name or go to the QIP portal yourself, click on the green “Download” button and select the 2012 version.

  1. Download and install the program.
  2. Let's launch. In its original form, Qip does not connect to ICQ. To fix this, changes in the settings are needed.
  3. After launch it will happen auto login, but your status will be “Offline”. Click on “Settings”.
  4. Go to section "Accounts" and select “ICQ”.
  5. Click on “Configure”.
  6. Check the box next to the line ”Use new authorization scheme”.
  7. In the “Connection” menu, replace the server address with “login.icq.com” and the port with “443”.
  8. Click on “Ok”. Everything should now work.

Important! This method works provided that QIP was previously installed on this device, you were authorized in the program, and autologin was enabled in the settings (automatic login, without asking for a login and password every time). In this case, a configuration file is created that remains on the device even after QIP is removed. It is this that provides access to the program interface after its re-installation.

Clarification for our readers: we need the 2012 version, because Qip 2005 does not connect in the way described above, even if you have previously used this program on the same device.

Good afternoon, dear blog readers! As already mentioned in the previous article, ICQ faced another fiasco at the end of last 2018 - a ban on the use of the old OSCAR protocol. In the new WIM protocol, the client-server communication format has changed - now data is exchanged by sending a POST request and receiving a response via JSON format. Thus, ICQ entered 2019 completely updated and... without the chaff from old clients like QIP 2005, BayanICQ... In a word, all clients that are no longer supported have gone into oblivion.

We have no doubt about the functionality of the official ICQ client. Let's try to connect to ICQ using various unofficial clients. Let me make a reservation right away that within the framework of this article, Windows clients are used.

QIP 2005

Loading our favorite old QIP 2005:

We have been waiting for a long time for the result and, alas:

Connection error

Unfortunately, the beloved QIP 2005 was never able to adapt to the innovations, because... There was no one left to develop it. They didn’t even keep track of the SSL certificate on the qip.ru website - it turned out to be expired at the time of writing this article.

Pidgin

Let's use another multi-protocol client - Pidgin. Let's try to add an ICQ account:

Adding ICQ to Pidgin

We receive the response “Received unexpected response from https://api.icq.net/aim/startOSCARSession“:

Pidgin connection error response

As we can see, ICQ does not connect using Pidgin if you use the protocol built into the program. However, the Internet is full of stories about how to add ICQ to a “pigeon” in a new reincarnation.

To do this, close the Pidgin program and go to the official GitHub of the libicyque library. For Windows Pidgin, download the libicyque.dll library from there, put it in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Pidgin\plugins folder, then download the libjson-glib-1.0.dll library and put it in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder \Pidgin. Then launch the messenger and add an ICQ (WIM) type account:

Pidgin with libicyque library

We see that the connection to ICQ was successful!

Miranda-Ng

The reincarnation of the classic Miranda connected to ICQ without any problems, nothing needed to be changed.

Adding an account to Miranda

ICQ was added to Miranda without any problems

ICQ transport for Jabber

To use the Jabber client to exchange messages with users of other systems (ICQ, Skype, etc.), special gateways called transports were created.

Since ICQ changed its protocol, the old asec transports died, which made it impossible to continue using it using tiny jabber clients. But not everything is so bad, you can use the libicyque library already mentioned in this article.

If you have installed the ejabberd server together with spectrum2 to support transports, then you need to sequentially call the following commands:

git clone git://github.com/EionRobb/icyque.git
cd icyque
make
sudo make install

After this, the libicyque.so library with the implementation of the asech WIM protocol should appear in the /usr/lib/purple-2 folder.

Next, you need to update the Spectrum packages spectrum2, spectrum2-backend-libpurple, and optionally spectrum2-backend-libcommuni, spectrum2-backend-twitter. After this, library support will appear with the implementation of the new ICQ WIM protocol.

Then you need to replace the protocol name in the ICQ configuration file. It should be like this:

protocol=prpl-eionrobb-icyque

After this you need to restart Spectrum:

sudo spectrum2_manager restart

ICQ should start working again on the Jabber client.

Instead of a conclusion

As soon as a question appears on the Internet about whether someone uses ICQ, the response comes with messages “ICQ died a long time ago,” “ICQ R.I.P.”, “who else needs it?” However, even the ban on the old OSCAR protocol was not the last milestone in the life of ICQ. In a fairly short time, libraries were developed that implemented the new WIM protocol, which made it possible for well-known messengers to connect to ICQ. This topic was also actively discussed at the beginning of 2019 on professional forums. So, someone else needs this ICQ
