To protect the content and encode the signal, the TV channel chose one of best solutions on the market - the Verimatrix system (version VCAS 4.0 for DVB). The Mediasat correspondent was informed about this by the press service of 1+1 Media.

The solution chosen by the Kvartal TV channel uses cardless client technology - CAM modules without smart cards are used to decode the signal. To decode a TV channel signal, it is enough to obtain a Verimatrix CAM module from the distribution company and install it in any satellite receiver with a CI/CI + slot. Verimatrix CAM modules are also compatible with professional IRD satellite receivers.

“Kvartal TV is a valuable and quality content, which is now reliably protected. This step was initially envisaged by the channel development strategy. I am convinced that this decision will make the channel more attractive for providers,” said Yaroslav Pakholchuk, director of pay television at 1+1 Media.

I still don’t understand why they should be secretive about the official price list. For example, four television groups are asking for 2.5 UAH per subscriber for 22 of their on-air TV channels. “Media Group Ukraine” officially (and openly) asks providers for 4 UAH per subscriber for the sports channels “Football 1” and “Football 2”. Group “Continent TV” (“Trophy”, “Dacha”, “Epoch”, “Science”, “Terra” and “Fauna”), according to the official price list available on the website - 80 kopecks each. from the subscriber (90 kopecks for HD).

Let me remind you that the TV channel “Kvartal TV” from the studio “Kvartal-95” is owned by Vladimir Zelensky, Andrey Yakovlev, Boris and Sergey Shefir (with shares of 12.5% ​​each), and the owners from the Plus side were Alexander Tkachenko (16.67% ), Yaroslav Pokhalchuk (16.66%) and businessman Timur Mindich (16.67%). As we already know, in the second quarter of 2019, large Ukrainian media groups are going to encrypt the satellite signals of their channels. One of the parties to the agreement, the 1+1 media group, has already ordered and delivered to Ukraine the first batch of settop boxes - equipment necessary for receiving an encoded signal.

The delivery was carried out by Ukrainian media groups and the STRONG company, which is one of the largest importers and manufacturers of satellite receiving equipment in Ukraine. The first batch of settop boxes amounted to 45 thousand pieces, which, according to the parties to the agreement, is enough to satisfy the first wave of demand from satellite reception subscribers. Further deliveries will be carried out in several stages.

Starting today, December 12, 2018, this equipment can be purchased in most Ukrainian wholesale and retail chains, online stores and from official satellite television operators.

In particular, the satellite provider “VIASAT” will sell setboxes at a recommended price of UAH 1,099 per unit. Also, to support subscribers who need to purchase receivers due to encoding, VIASAT offers a special tariff package“National”, including rating and national TV channels for 29 UAH/month.

“The supply of setboxes to Ukraine, without which watching TV channels broadcast from satellites will become impossible, is the second important step in this complex satellite signal encoding project. The first step was to introduce changes to the licenses of TV channels to change the type of satellite signal reception from open to closed.

By bringing settop boxes to market, media groups are effectively confirming their determination to encode the signal and showing that not only they, but also importers, distributors and satellite providers are involved in this process. All participants actively cooperate with each other.

I am sure that there is no turning back, because all the obligations that we have already undertaken and continue to undertake will be implemented next year. The final encoding of the satellite signal is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2019, and I am confident that we will meet this deadline,” said Yaroslav Pakholchuk, executive director and director of pay television at 1+1 media group.

It should be noted that Ukrainian media groups have gathered to encode the satellite signal in Ukraine in order to limit the satellite coverage area in Ukraine to protect the rights of producers and copyright holders of content.

According to them, this approach to broadcasting content is inherent in all developed European markets, so its adoption should allow Ukrainian television broadcasters not only to protect content from piracy and illegal broadcasting without a license, but also to comply with international industrial standards.
