Do I need Adobe shockwave player? What is Shockwave Flash? Instant solution to problem in Google Chrome when Shockwave Flash plugin is not responding

Hello guys At first glance it seems that this is an incomprehensible program, but in fact everything is simple. This is a regular Adobe flash that helps you play content in browsers. Or rather, it doesn’t even help, but that’s what it does

But I did some digging on the Internet and found out that Adobe Shockwave includes just Shockwave Player and Adobe Director, that’s how it works! I won’t overwhelm you with all the information, it’s just all done to make the flash even cooler than it was before. Games, some applications, in general a lot of things and all of this can run on flash. And for it to work for you, Adobe Shockwave Player must be installed. But most likely you already have it, because it is already installed on a bunch of computers, to be more precise, about 450 million...

Is it possible to remove Adobe Shockwave Player? No, you don’t need to, otherwise your browser will stop showing online videos, music won’t play, and online games won’t work either. Yes, a lot of things won't work. But for example, YouTube already seems to know how to do without flash, there is some kind of HTML5 technology... in short, YouTube has advanced...

If you have flash installed correctly, then most likely there will be an icon in the Control Panel like this:

The program can also be seen in the Programs and Features window (this icon is in the Control Panel). In this window, you can delete it; to do this, right-click on it, select Delete and follow the instructions. But as I already wrote, I personally do not recommend doing this. Here it is in this window:

Can flash slow down your computer? Yes, it can, because programs (including a video player) that work using flash technology can significantly load the processor. But this applies mostly to older processors. New, even the most budget Celerons, easily cope with such a task as flash in the browser.

By the way, I would like to write something else... It seems to me that the flash player is the leader in the trick by which viruses get into the computer. No, the flash player itself has nothing to do with it. This is a different matter. Attackers make websites where a fake window pops up asking you to update your flash player, like you have an old one. But in fact, even if the version is current, this message will still be there! And so you seem to be updating, but in fact a virus gets into your computer. How can we conclude? Look carefully at which site is offering you to update. Secondly, manually download the flash player only from the official website, it is the only one and that’s it.

The modern Internet offers users more than just informational texts and static pictures. You can play games and watch videos in the browser. And commercials have long been a part of the marketing industry. All this is possible thanks to the presence of players in web browsers. Let's figure out what Shockwave Flash is and what it gives to users.

Does such a plugin exist?

A plug-in is a software module that is written specifically for a specific application and expands its capabilities. The plugin itself cannot work. It needs to be integrated into software.
Initially, there were two companies that developed players for viewing active content in browsers:

  1. Adobe.
  2. Macromedia.

The first is widely known thanks to graphic editor Photoshop. The second one is more familiar to developers. Many games and videos were created in the unforgettable Macromedia Flash. And Macromedia Dreamweaver was a recognized leader among website creation applications. It was this developer who created the Macromedia ShockWave and Macromedia Flash platforms.

In 2005, Adobe absorbed a competitor and now we know products with the same name, but from Adobe. The first includes a player of the same name and the Animate game, presentation and cartoon development environment. The second consists of Shockwave player and Director applications. In which you can develop cartoons, e-learning programs, multimedia applications, etc.
So there is no ShockWave Flash plugin. There are two different developments that at some point became associated with one player. Each of them allows you to view media content in the browser.

Install and update

So, Adobe Flash is built into the Chrome core and pre-installed for other browsers, and Shockwave is a plugin that can be downloaded and installed for free.

It is automatically installed in all browsers on your computer. The player is updated in the same way - by downloading from the official website.
You can also update Shockwave and Flash, but in different ways. To update the built-in Flash, you must either update the browser itself, or go to the component view:

The easiest way to update the player simultaneously for all browsers is through the official website.
Download latest version and install. The player will update as separate program, and for browsers.

Shockwave Flash has crashed – what to do?

Sometimes users may experience this error when trying to view active content from the Internet. Interesting, but it most often concerns the Adobe plugin Flash Player. In this case, you need to restart the browser. Also Shockwave and Flash plugins do not respond if they are outdated. Update them.

Most often we can see a message for the “Shockwave Flash is not responding” module in Chrome. It was from them, by the way, that this confusion in terminology came about. This is due to the fact that only Chrome and Yandex use their own built-in version. All others - Opera, Mozilla, etc. access separately installed application, which is used as a plugin.

If you have other browsers or just installed player, the error is most likely due to an attempt to access two versions at once - your own and an autonomous one. Until recently, you could go to the Chrome://plugins tab and disable the extra plugin there. But in the latest versions this function was closed from users. So, as a way out, you can uninstall the PC player in the “programs and features” section (click right button mouse on the Start menu). But this will lead to the fact that you can watch the video only in Chrome and Yandex browser, which also has its own plugin.

If this doesn't help, remove Shockwave as well. Rarely, but players conflict with each other. In the future, if necessary, you can install the latest versions of both players.

Another way to get rid of the error is to install the latest version of Chrome. Or switch to using a different web browser.

Have a great day!

Shockwave is a technology responsible for displaying vector 3D graphics, Flash games and other elements. Sometimes users different browsers encounter an unpleasant error - a failure in this plugin. What to do in this case?

It is worth immediately noting that in other respects (where Flash playback is not required) the browser will work the same as before the plugin crashed.

The most simple solution is to restart the browser. But this only helps if the failure was isolated and does not happen again. If rebooting does not help and the plugin crashes systematically, you will have to spend a couple of minutes to resolve this error.

Most often, this problem occurs in the most popular browser. Google Chrome. The fact is that other browsers Flash version Player is standalone, while in Chrome it is integrated and updated along with the browser itself. Most often, users who have two plugins installed on their computer, which begin to conflict with each other, experience plugin crashes. To check this, you need to write in the Chrome address bar chrome://plugins and press Enter. In the window that opens, you need to find the line Adobe Flash Player.

If next to the inscription it says 2 files, then perhaps the reason for the failure of Shockwave Flash lies precisely in them. Therefore, you need to try disabling one of them. To do this, you need to find a button on the right side of the screen More details and find the line again Adobe Flash Player.

Now you need to figure out which plugin you need to disable. To do this, you need to focus on the Location line. The first plugin will be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\…, and the second in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\…. As is clear, the first one is integrated, and you need to disable it by pressing the corresponding button.

If earlier version Adobe Player has not been updated, you can do this now by downloading it and installing it after closing the browser.

If the problem persists, you can swap the plugins by enabling the disabled one and disabling the enabled one.

IN Opera browser There may also be problems with the operation of the Shockwave plugin. To fix this, you need to write in the address bar opera:plugins and press Enter. Find the plugin in the window that opens Shockwave Flash and turn it on.

In the browser Mozilla Firefox the procedure is as follows: menu Tools> item Add-ons>tab Plugins > Shockwave Flash > Disable.

Good day to all. The Internet is developing rapidly - more and more graphics and video content are appearing on sites, and it works mainly on flash technology (this is especially true for various online games V in social networks— they use flash to the fullest). So - lately my favorite Mozilla browser Firefox often begins to freeze and displays an error: It looks like Shockwave Flash is busy or has stopped responding. You can stop the plugin now or continue and see if the plugin can complete its job!

To be honest, this really started to piss me off and I decided to figure out why Shockwave Flash slows down the computer and how to overcome this disease. I will write in advance that there is no simple and pleasant solution to this problem, but here are a few recommendations that need to be made in order this error I took it out as little as possible!

Food for thought... First, I recommend reading the note, it is quite possible that these jambs have already been fixed and you won’t have to disable anything, but don’t forget to finish reading the article - it will always come in handy

Having figured out this issue, I concluded that the problem is in the Flash plugin itself - it is the one that starts to glitch and completely hangs any browser, be it Firefox or Chrome - it doesn’t care if there are problems with it in any Internet browser!

Due to the fact that this is a jamb of the plugin itself, and not the browser, I divided the article into 3 parts, into the most popular browsers and for each I will describe in detail the solution options - I think this will be the most justified option...

1. Shockwave Flash Slows Down Your Computer [Mozilla Firefox Browser]

2. How to disable Adobe Flash Player in Opera Browser

3. Disable Shockwave Flash in Google Chrome

Shockwave Flash slows down your computer [Mozilla Firefox Browser]

Since I use Mozilla Fifefox in my work, I’ll start describing the problem with it. You can see such a window in versions starting from and higher... There is no solution as such - you can only terminate the plugin through the task manager or “kill” the process with the browser itself!

Let's take a closer look at the option of ending processes - since this is the fastest and 100% way to solve the problem... of course, this option is not the most humane, but effective. By the way - it can be used with any browser, and in general - any program that has started to work incorrectly and cannot be completed - Process Manager is a powerful tool!

So, we complete these two processes, and restart the Browser... we work and rejoice until the next window with a problem :) We think further about what can be done here - and there is a solution, but for some it can cause a lot of inconvenience. For example, I will put up with this error - it’s not difficult for me to restart the process with the browser, and perhaps you will be interested in this solution to the problem - disabling the Adobe Flash Player add-on and turning it on only when requested...

In the upper right corner of the browser, click on the “Settings” icon and find “Add-ons” there, all this is shown in the picture below.

This is where the list with installed plugins to our Mozilla Firefox browser, just select “Enable on request” there and before starting where you need it, it will ask us for permission (this way you won’t see most of the advertising - there’s a lot of it on Flash)

We've dealt with Fire Fox and Shockwave Flash - now our turn is on the Opera browser, in which all these settings are hidden far in the depths of the browser.

How to disable Adobe Flash Player in Opera Browser

As I said, everything became different in Opera, as they switched to the engine from Chrome. You won’t find plugin settings in the menu here - you need to open the page in the browser

Opera:plugins

A page will open to us, as in the picture below... find Adobe Flash Player and click on the “Disable” button - thereby deactivating the buggy plugin!

Now we see that it is disabled - you can immediately turn it on if you can’t do without it)))

Next up is Chrome!

Disable Shockwave Flash in Google Chrome

Shockwave Flash slows down your computer even with the fastest and supposedly coolest browser - Google Chrome. Yes, Flash is such a misfortune that it hit the entire browser. Since Opera and Chrome are technically very similar, this plugin is disabled in almost the same way... open the page with plugin settings by entering the following code in the address bar

Chrome://plugins

Find Adobe Flash Player in the list and click “Disable”

Now we see that the plugin is disabled and will not be “stupid”... it’s not for nothing that Flash was abandoned on mobile platforms, and it’s high time on computers!

P.S. In general, I recommend that you disable Shockwave Flash, because it slows down your computer and updates do not help once again... if you know other ways to solve this problem, I will be glad to know your opinion in the comments to this post!

Instant solution to problem in Google Chrome when Shockwave Flash plugin is not responding

The Google Chrome browser is used by most users, so we’ll start with it. This browser, in addition to its bells and whistles, has one more feature - it already has Adobe Flash Player built-in, that is, there is no need to download, install and update this component. If several similar plugins are installed in Chrome, then for this reason conflicts may arise between them. As a result, we see that Shockwave plugin Flash is not responding.

So, to determine which plugins are installed in Google browser Chrome, enter “chrome://plugins” in the address bar.

A window with installed plugins will open in front of you, where you need to find Adobe Flash Player. Look carefully, if the message “2 files” is present, then the plugin crash is most likely due to this.

To solve the problem, disable one of the plugins. Click the “More details” link and see we have two plugins, disable one of them.

We restart the browser and try to launch the video or application, after launching which an error occurred with Shockwave Flash. If the problem is solved, great; if not, try disabling another plugin by enabling the first one. Restart the browser again and take a look. Most likely the problem will go away. If this does not help, then try downloading the latest version of Adobe Player from the link and updating/installing.

Shockwave flash plugin does not respond in Mozilla Firefox or Opera

If you see a similar error in the Opera browser, then follow these steps. First, type “opera:plugins” into the address bar and press enter.

Next, in the window with installed plugins, find Shockwave Flash and disable it using the “Disable” button.

Turn off, turn on Opera and check.

If you encounter a similar error in Mozilla Firefox, go to “Tools” - “Add-ons” - “Plugins”. Same here, find the Shockwave Flash plugin and disable it.

After all the above steps in any browser, you can get rid of the error “ Shockwave flash plugin is not responding", spending about a minute. If you know any other methods that will help solve a similar problem, then be sure to describe the actions in the comments, because helping others increases karma, don’t forget about it!
